I guess it’s Murphy’s Law that after a few gloriously sunny days we’d
have to suffer
through another cold snap. Yesterday was that day. So John and I took off to
run some errands in a nearby town rather than just staying home huddled by the
fire. It was that cold and miserable, but in his new toy car that he loves to
drive we have heated leather seats in the front. So off we went into the
darkness of a dismal weather forecast that was proving correct.
Although it did
rain during the night and did bucket down on part of
our journey, we
were mostly spared from being in it when we exited from the car. But the vivid
and velvety green pastures were so stunning, offset by the cool gray light, that I had to
take pictures of the various cloudy skies next to them. New Zealand is so
picturesque in any season but the advent of Spring is sensational to me in this
rural paradise and I must try to capture it for posterity. Doing this I seem to
drive my mate crazy, since I’m usually wailing for him to stop the car or
bitching and moaning when he doesn’t do that on a dime to my satisfaction so I
miss the elusive ‘perfect shot’ that I wanted so desperately to record.
On the way there
he did have to turn around and drive back a half a block when I spotted a group
of young alpacas at a local farm. Oh my, will sacrifices never cease? But he
was a good sport about it and after I froze my you know what off taking just
the right shots, it dawned on me that those images will have to have a blog all
their own, since those animals deserve more than one photograph posted. So
forget I mentioned it and let’s get on with the dreamy roadway near our cottage
that has such lyrical hillsides covered in the greenest grass that’s studded
with sheep that were mostly too far away to see clearly. That’s another blog
that will be forthcoming this week. It’s all about lambs and ewes that survive
in these up and down conditions. Now back to the drive into town with the heavy
with rain cloudiness threatening at every moment.
New Zealand still looks like the scenery surrounding a train set to me…. so charming, sweet, innocent and so verdant at this time of year. Lucky us.
