Autumn’s Last Gasps

What a strange year of mixed-up weather patterns and too much rain. I finally got a few things planted outside in pots that need to be repainted and/or repaired and or/tossed out. But once I put them in their containers with a little straw or wisps from the long fronds of fluffiness that come off the large grasses, they seem to stand at attention. And believe me they get my attention, as they’re so striking at this time of year. I have a keenness for sharp yellow, citron yellow, and magenta with deep pinks and orange, red and purple lately and although the rustic table I put these plants on to keep them from the chickens is overcrowded and not looking its best, the overall effect is magnificent. These blooms are giving their last flush of flowers or some are giving their first flush of winter flowers and together the impact is very easy on the eyes, despite all the flaws I notice.
My tools are askew and the chooks or the wind knock certain things down with regularity. The winds are so drying and so intense that I must hand water often despite daily deluges with rainfall hitting them. The paintings I’ve put on my flowerpots and watering cans and the like are peeling off or dimming and I don’t even know where my paints are hiding at the moment although I have cleaned out that whole area where I keep disparate items together. I must have put them in a great hiding place. But I captured a single rosebud that’s just opening despite inferior weather patterns on my way to collapsing in a heap after a major planting session and that was heartwarming. A few odd roses are having a go now, but just singlets at this time. That’s all I can say for now. Somehow, it’s gotten to be almost midnight as I write these words and I still have other things that I must do before I crawl into beddy bye land. Enjoy the flowers. They’re so relieved to have their fragile roots in soil now. I think they’re smiling. With all the rain we’ve had, I’ve waited too long to plant them but they’ll probably do just fine from now on.
