Life in a Postcard

There’s a lot to be said about rural living. Being amongst the wild and domesticated animals isn’t for everyone though. We certainly have suffered from loneliness at times being so isolated from society but mainly from being far from our family. That has taken a lot of getting used to but I still want to be closer despite the perks of being in the heart of nature’s omnipotence and endless bounty. But then, as many have said before me, you can’t have it both ways. Either we stay in God’s country or we return to more manageable distances apart. We’ll see about that. Some places actually do have a bit of both.
Yesterday John had a doctor’s appointment. In our travels, I snapped as many photos as humanly possible. It was one of those mystical mornings where the expanse of white cottony clouds lulled me into contentment. I noticed they were unable to climb out of the ground level of small canyons in the low-lying valley areas near our house so they looked like they’d been painted into place. The skies with the amorphous sun shining through looked like paintings from any of the top French impressionists. Some looked even older than that. There was that surreal and rather ethereal quality of the light that permeates everything in the countryside where few buildings, be they barns or houses, dot the landscape. With endless rows of telephone poles being the major ‘tell’ that people actually live in the neighborhood behind the hedges and lines of trees, there’s not much more that detracts from the natural setting. The skies in particular are immense and all-encompassing since no buildings mar their sight. I see a vast sea of exquisite colors and shapes from the ground up, illuminated by the faintly diffused sheen of solar rays peeking through.
So, without further ado, I present to you my impressions from yesterday’s journey. These types of images haunt me. There’s always a poignant and potent undertone to them for me. Like a postcard from a special place that we hold in our hearts, these photographs showcase the effervescent diffusion of the light from above that pierces the most noble or humble views, and in so doing go straight from my heart into my soul. Ummm.
